Turkey, which is in the centre of the Middle East, Europe, the Balkans and Africa in terms of its location, is a country which is located in a position which enables it to be a leading country in health tourism, due to the qualified and highly skilled physicians and medical professionals it possesses, easy means of transport, capability of travel to and from 62 countries without the requirement of visas, and its high medical technology. We hold in especially greater advantages in terms of the countries with which we have historical and cultural ties. While providing quality health care to our own citizens at our private and state hospitals, every preparation has been made so that the citizens of other countries may also take advantage of the very same services. Foreign nationals who come to Turkey for treatment are able to receive that treatment without meeting with any problems, while at the same time having the opportunity to enjoy a nice holiday. A large number of foreign patients are accepted for treatment in our country – in particular in cities such as Antalya, Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and Adana, and our health organisations undertake the treatments of these patients. As can be seen from the work that has been carried out, the treatments which stand out in particular are in the areas of plastic surgery, dentistry, eye treatments, cardiovascular surgery, oncology, brain surgery and orthopaedic treatments. Patient waiting times in Western countries have become extremely lengthy, medical services have started to become more expensive, and the coverage provided by insurances has started to become narrower. It can be seen that the number of health tourists who came to Turkey exceeded approximately 100 thousand. As Turkey is situated within the temperate zone, the interest in sea tourism is higher. The Aegean, Mediterranean and Southern Marmara coasts hold importance for sea tourism. As the average altitude of Turkey is quite high, it is also attractive in terms of winter tourism. There are skiing centres aimed at meeting the need for winter tourism in particular on mountains such as Bursa-Uludağ, Kayseri-Erciyes, Erzurum-Palandöken and Bolu-Kartalkaya.
